He made significant contributions to the principles of optics as well as to anatomy,astronomy,engineering,mathematics,medicine,ophthalmology,philosophy,physics,visual perception and to science in general with his intoduction of scientific method. He is sometimes called al-basriafter his birthplace in the city of basra.
Ibn al-Haytham's most famous work is his seven volume on optics, Kitab al-Manazir (Book of Optics), written from 1011 to 1021.It has been ranked alongside isaac newton's philosophia naturalis principia mathematica as one of the most influential books in physics for introducing an early scientific method, and for initiating a revolution in optics and visual perceptionvisual .
